ABOUT

The coordinator of the COVIDPsiq project, Prof. Dr. Vitor Calegaro, makes 8 recommendations for maintaining mental health and well-being in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video is part of the RESILIEIGHT initiative, which consists of a program to reinforce resilience in order to promote mental health and prevent mental disorders resulting from stress and trauma situations.

The video is intended for the general population in order to contribute to the maintenance of mental / emotional balance, and is not limited to the current context.

The recommendations are based on several studies on disaster resilience, including the experience from the Kiss nightclub fire, and it comes from the author's doctoral thesis.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Keep a healthy body

Physical exercise and the maintenance of healthy eating habits are directly associated with mental health.

Respect your rhythms

Respecting biological (food, sleep, menstrual and sexual cycle) and social rhythms (cycles of activity and rest, work and leisure, weekends and holidays) is essential for maintaining mental health.

Focus on positive thoughts and emotions

Resilient people tend to see the positive side of things; emotions color experiences, while thoughts give meaning to them.

Have a purpose in life

To have purpose, you must have life experience: experiment, invent, try, have clear and realistic dreams and goals.

Cultivate healthy relationships

Be tolerant, empathetic, avoid judgment and seek compassion; get rid of toxic relationships and seek to build a support network.

Invest in internal resources

Have a clean, active, attentive and prepared mind; feed your brain, develop skills and avoid information overload, reducing the use of cell phones and social networks.

Accept and thank

Live one day after another. Accept your defects, but know your qualities; accept what cannot be changed and change what is possible.

Believe it

Beliefs help to give meaning to life, because not everything is understood by reason.
